Rajasthan Patrika is all set to expand its footprint across MP. Jabalpur edition will soon be launched where it may face another new entrant in the form of People's Samachar. Haribhoomi, Raj Express, Nai Dunia and Dainik Bhaskar are already present there. Usha Srivastava from Delhi bureau of the Patrika was asked to join as resident editor of the new edition. However she put down her papers and went on to join Amar Ujala. The search is on for a someone else to takeover the reigns.

Hindi daily Raj Express is seeking to further strengthen its presence in the Hindi belt and is eyeing expansion in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan in 2009. Launched in Bhopal in March 2005, Raj Express entered the Indore market in May 2006, followed by Jabalpur and Gwalior in October 2008 and November 2008, respectively. Elaborating on the expansion plans, Sanjay Mehta, Managing Direction, Raj Group, said, “We intend to complete our coverage of the Chhattisgarh market with the launch of the Raipur and Bilaspur editions in the next six months. We are targeting a minimum of 2 lakh copies for these editions. We plan to launch four editions in Rajasthan – Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota and Udaipur – in 2009. Alok Mehta editor Outlook Hindi is said to be joining Navdunia's proposed Delhi edition. Navdunia is the new Hindi daily launched by Indore based Nai Dunia group. On the other hand Raj Express is slated to launch Jabalpur edition to expand its presence in Madhya Pradesh. At present it has editions from Bhopal and Indore. Another Hindi newspaper having strong presence in Haryana and Chattisgarh is all set to launch an edition from Jabalpur.

Feeling the heat after the launch of Patrika's Bhopal edition Dainik Bhaskar has launched a tabloid from the city DB Star. The launch comes a day after Patrika's Bhopal edition hit the stands. The tabloid is available free to the readers of the daily and is priced Re 1 for others. On the other hand Patrika will soon launch Indore and Gwalior editions. The number two player in Bhopal Raj Express is said to have lost circuation to the tune of 10,000 copies after the launch of Patrika.

After long wait and amid speculations regarding launch date Patrika has finally stepped into Madhya Pradesh. This will be first time outside Rajasthan when two arch rivals of Hindi print media space Rajasthan Patrika and Dainik Bhaskar will be face to face. Madhya Pradesh is the home turf of Dainik Bhaskar and it has rivalled Patrika when it entered Rajasthan more than a decade ago. Other players in the Bhopal market are Navdunia, Dainik Jagran, Navbharat and Raj Express. Smaller players may lose in the battle royal. Rajasthan Patrika's Managing Director and Editor Gulab Kothari in a special editorial has not only hit out at his newspaper's arch rival for bringing down the standard of journalism in Madhya Pradesh but also promised readers of Madhya Pradesh a new dawn.

While the NaiDunia Media Group’s NavDunia was launched last month, Patrika will be launched on May 29. Patrika is actually Rajasthan Patrika, which has dropped ‘Rajasthan’ from its name because Bhopal is in Madhya Pradesh. According to sources at Rajasthan Patrika, Patrika’s initial print run in Bhopal will be 145,000 copies. NavDunia claims to target a circulation of 150,000 copies in the first quarter after its launch. However, according to the ABC figures for July-December 2007, the leader in the Bhopal market, Dainik Bhaskar, has an average paid circulation of 106,105 in Bhopal city. “The gap between the No. 1 (Dainik Bhaskar) and No. 2 (Raj Express) in Bhopal is huge. The two states which are going to witness action in the new year as far as Hindi print meia is concerned are Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh . Dehradun the capital of Uttarakhand will see the launch of three newspapers including two tabloids. While the Delhi bases Hindi daily Hindustan from the HT media limited will see the light of day in another two or three months.
